About the Artist - Sheree

Growing up in western Sydney, I've always been crafty — sewing, knitting, felting, stamping. I painted a mural on a filing cabinet in my bedroom in high school. I considered getting into graphic design but decided differently, and didn't pick up a paintbrush for my own work again until 2023.

But the Australian bush and its amazing creatures never left me.

I'm now based in the Illawarra, NSW, and my work has found its way into homes across Australia. In 2025 I received a Highly Commended award at the Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival, and in 2026 I was awarded the People's Choice.

I paint Australian wildlife and flora in acrylics and oils, working from close observation until each subject has presence, not just likeness.

For me, painting isn't simply about capturing what something looks like. It's about noticing who it is.

The curious tilt of a head. The watchful stillness of a bird. The quiet confidence of an animal that belongs exactly where it is.

Those small moments are what draw me in, and what I hope to bring to the canvas.

There is something powerful about really seeing an animal. Once you notice its character, it becomes more than a species. It becomes something you recognise. Something you connect with.

I believe the more we notice the natural world, the more we care about it. And the more we care, the more we want to protect it.

That is the quiet hope behind my work: that a painting might catch your eye, but leave you with something more.
