Wild Australia

Wild Australia is a body of work built around one idea, that when you really look at an animal, something looks back.

These paintings are made with oil on canvas, one subject at a time, until each one has presence. Character. A name. Some have found their way to new homes. Others are waiting.

If you're here because you want to commission something of your own, this is a good place to start.

Max - Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo Max arrived at exactly the right moment. I was sitting in my studio wondering whether I was really good enough to make a career from my art when a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo landed on the balcony railing outside. They n
Sparky - Gang-gang Cockatoo Sparky began with a request. After seeing Banjo, my Gang-gang cockatoo who went on to win the People's Choice Award at the Thirroul Art Festival 2026, a local couple asked if I could paint a Gang-gang of their own. He st
Kyah - Black-tailed Red Cockatoo For my birthday last year, my husband surprised me with a black cockatoo encounter at Feathered Friends in Bargo. Birds I'd only ever watched high in the trees, or in photos, were suddenly sitting on my arm, landing
Bonnie - Koala A koala can sleep for most of the day, curled into the fork of a eucalypt, completely dependent on the trees around her. The trouble begins when she wakes up and those trees are gone. Not far from me in Appin, development continues t
Banjo - Gang-gang Cockatoo Banjo was my first large Gang-gang cockatoo painting, and I wanted him to be impossible to ignore. That extraordinary scarlet head against the darkness, the wild sweep of his crest, the intricate grey barring of his feath
Eddie - Emu I went all the way to the Australian outback looking for an emu and didn't see a single one. Uluru, Alice Springs, all the way up to Darwin. I was so excited about seeing these incredible birds out in the wild, in their own country. Edd
Archie - Superb fairy-wren Archie came home with me from Tasmania, in a way. Superb fairy-wrens seemed to be everywhere we went, these tiny flashes of brilliant blue darting through the landscape, and I completely fell in love with them. Then, once
Bruce - Wombat Bruce looks like a big, soft ball of fur. But he's not. He's a solid ball of resilience and power. There's so much more to wombats beyond the things that make them wonderfully weird: backwards-facing pouches, armour-like backsides and
Charlie - Pink Cockatoo How can you beat a crest like that? Charlie looks like he’s dressed for a party and already knows he’s the centre of attention. On our trip from Uluru and Alice Springs up to Darwin, I desperately hoped to see Pink Cockatoos
Spike - Echidna We were in Tasmania when we spotted an echidna waddling along the side of the road. We pulled the car over just to watch him, completely absorbed in that determined little walk as he went about his business. Then we came home and I
Kev - Kookaburra Kookaburras have always been part of my world. Growing up, they were everywhere. Even now, when we're bushwalking they'll often follow us along, moving from tree to tree as though they're keeping an eye on things. I've come to think
Merri - Eastern Grey Kangaroo Merri is an Eastern Grey, and around Batemans Bay they're part of everyday life. One of my favourite things about driving to Mum's is seeing them stretched out in the grass, lazing in the sun or hopping casually down th
Billy - Budgerigar Billy takes me straight back to childhood. We always had birds growing up, including budgies. They started out in cages inside before Dad built them an aviary, so birds, wild and not, have always been part of my life. I love Bill
Trev - Tasmanian Devil Trev is a baby Tasmanian devil, and I mean, look at that face. The first thing you notice is the eyes. Not fierce. Not wild. Just... watching. We'd hoped to see devils in the wild while travelling around Tasmania. The night w
Billie and Beau - Budgerigars Belle and Beau remind me of the first time I saw budgies in the wild, on our trip through Alice Springs and Uluru. The noise, the colour, the sheer number of them — gorgeous little birds doing exactly what birds are mea
The Pelicans There's something about a pelican. Enormous, unhurried, completely unbothered by the world around them. Australian pelicans are extraordinary. They're Australia's largest flying bird and have the longest bill of any bird in the world. T
Grey Nurse Shark This was a commission with a difference. The owner had taken the underwater photograph himself, and my job was to translate his encounter into paint — including the shimmering yellowtail scad moving around this incredible shark. Gr
Pelicans at Sunset There's something special about these two. Standing together at the water's edge as the sun goes down, looking out in the same direction. I love the warmth of the sunset against those beautiful pink bills and the feeling of stilln
Rusty - Gang-gang Cockatoo Rusty was my first Gang-gang cockatoo. I fell in love with the sheer red-ness of him. That incredible head and crest, the upright pose, the almost regal way he holds himself. He's not trying to impress anyone. He's just do
